Keynote Speaker: Kate Thornton-Bousfield

Chief Executive Officer, Association for Physical Education (afPE)

We are delighted to welcome Kate Thornton-Bousfield, CEO of afPE, as our keynote speaker. Kate will open the conference with national updates, key priorities for the sector and a strategic view of the future of PE in primary settings. Her keynote will reflect on the evolving landscape, including the curriculum review, updated Ofsted framework and the direction of policy and practice nationally.

Kate’s Workshop: Making the PE and Sport Premium Sustainable

By April, schools will know the future of the PE and Sport Premium. Kate’s workshop will focus on how to use funding to achieve sustainable impact and long-term improvement in PE and school sport.

This workshop will:

  • Showcase best practices in premium planning and spending
  • Explore expectations within the updated Ofsted framework
  • Support schools to strengthen the Personal Development judgement
  • Share ways to widen participation through enrichment
  • Outline the reporting requirements for 2026

Workshop Preview: Assessment in Physical Education

Delivered by Catherine Fitzpatrick

In this practical session, Catherine will explore how to assess the ‘Whole Child’ through high-quality Physical Education. Using video footage of lessons, delegates will examine effective assessment for learning (AfL) at lesson level, explore formative assessment strategies and reflect on their current practice to enhance PE assessment in their own setting.


Workshop Preview: Cross-Curricular Orienteering

Delivered by Cross-Curricular Orienteering

Delivered by afPE-accredited providers, Cross-Curricular Orienteering, this practical session will explore how to teach sequenced orienteering in PE and deliver active learning across the curriculum. Delegates will learn how to teach key orienteering skills progressively, deliver lessons in any space and increase whole-school activity through simple, engaging tasks.


Workshop Preview: Ofsted updates and what this means for PE

Delivered by Abbie Morrissey, PH ActiveEd

This workshop will support PE leads to understand the updated Ofsted inspection framework and what it means for PESSPA. It will focus on high-quality provision and provide practical guidance on strengthening curriculum design, assessment and personal development in PE.


Workshop Preview: Inclusive PE for ALL learners

Delivered by LUSU

LUSU will lead a practical session exploring how to adapt and deliver inclusive PE that enables all pupils to participate and succeed. The workshop will share simple adaptations for equipment, task design and lesson structure to support learners with a range of needs.
