PH ActiveEd Annual Staff Week 2025

PH ActiveEd Annual Staff Week 2025

At the end of August our full team came together at Stonar School in Melksham for our annual Staff Week (26th–29th August). This is one of the highlights of our calendar, giving us the opportunity to pause before the start of a busy academic year, reflect on our practice and invest in the continued growth of our people.

Over four days staff took part in a carefully planned programme designed to refresh skills, deepen knowledge and build confidence. Core sessions focused on:

Pedagogy and the Primary PE National Curriculum
Exploring effective teaching strategies and curriculum expectations ensuring our delivery remains current, purposeful and aligned to national guidance.

Assessment in PE (Thinking Me, Healthy Me & Social Me)
Revisiting our approach to assessment and using our three-strand framework to help every child recognise progress in their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.

Behaviour Management
Sharing practical approaches to create positive learning environments equipping staff to confidently support engagement and enjoyment in all lessons.

Safeguarding
Refreshing our responsibilities and strengthening our shared commitment to keeping every child safe in all settings.

SEND Focus with Sally Bishop
A highlight of the week, this session offered strategies to adapt lessons and remove barriers so that PE is fully inclusive and accessible for all children.

We were also fortunate to welcome Catherine Fitzpatrick from Complete PE, who delivered a brilliant workshop exploring how to maximise the platform’s impact in schools as well as giving us a sneak preview of some exciting updates on the horizon.

A special thank you must go to our Staff Development Team who worked incredibly hard to pull the week together and delivered the majority of the training sessions. Their expertise and energy played a huge part in making the week such a success.

But Staff Week is about more than training. It’s also about strengthening relationships, welcoming new colleagues and reconnecting with our purpose as a team. This year we enjoyed a team-building afternoon in Bradford-on-Avon, taking part in an interactive treasure hunt that challenged us to problem-solve, communicate and laugh together along the way.

A huge thank you to Stonar School for hosting us. It really was a beautiful setting for the week and provided the perfect environment for reflection, learning and connection.

Staff Week is an annual reminder that people are at the heart of everything we do. By investing in their development we are investing in the quality of PE and school sport delivered to children across the South-West. It’s this ongoing commitment to learning, growth and teamwork that ensures we can continue to support schools with excellence, energy and care.
