About the Role

PH ActiveEd is excited to be launching a brand-new wraparound childcare provision at Selwood Academy from September 2026. We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic and organised Before & After‑School Club Leader to establish and lead this new setting — the first PH ActiveEd club based in a middle school environment.

This is an independent role to begin with, meaning you will be the main staff member responsible for planning and delivering daily sessions. As the club grows and usage increases, there may be an opportunity to introduce a Club Assistant, but initially you will lead the club independently with the full support of our management team.

Serving pupils in Years 5–8 (ages 9–13), the club will have a different feel to our primary school settings. You’ll create a safe, structured and welcoming space where young people can relax, socialise, complete homework, take part in age‑appropriate activities and feel supported at the start and end of each school day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is confident working with older children, enjoys independence in their role, and wants to lead the development of a brand-new club from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily running of the before and after‑school club as the sole staff member on site
  • Create a warm, respectful and engaging environment suitable for pupils in Years 5–8
  • Plan and deliver activities appropriate for older, more independent students
  • Provide balanced supervision while allowing pupils autonomy within clear boundaries
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, families and school staff
  • Manage registers, communication, session flow and daily organisation
  • Set up and pack down club areas to maintain a safe and welcoming space
  • Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, health & safety and company policies
  • Help shape the club’s development and routines as the setting grows

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with older primary or lower secondary pupils (Years 5–8)
  • Confidence leading a session independently
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Someone calm, responsible and comfortable managing a group solo
  • A positive role model with a genuine passion for supporting young people
  • A relevant Level 2/3 qualification in childcare, youth work, TA support, play work or sport (desirable)
  • Willingness to complete paediatric first aid, safeguarding and food hygiene training (if required)

Additional Benefits

  • Free club place for your own child if they attend Selwood Academy
  • Equipment, resources and uniform provided
  • Opportunities to progress within the company via increased responsibility and promotions
  • Private Health Care (via Salary Sacrifice)
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Ongoing internal and external CPD to increase, improve and add to your management and teaching tool kit (annual staff training week, staff development team, internal training modules, first aid and safeguarding training)
  • Free PH Camps childcare places (for children aged 4+)
